✶ 14th National People's Congress · 2023–2028

Three thousand
deputies, one week.

2,977 deputies were elected between December 2022 and January 2023 by 35 electoral units: the provincial congresses, Hong Kong, Macao, the armed forces, and a 13-member delegation for Taiwan, which the PRC claims but does not govern. The constitution makes the NPC "the highest organ of state power"; it meets once a year, for about a week.

'deputies' = deputies elected per electoral unit as published in the official list of 14th NPC deputies (NPCSC announcement, Xinhua 2023-02-24/25; '各选举单位选出的代表' with per-unit counts in headings); sums to 2,977. 'initial_quota_2022' = NPCSC allocation plan of 2022-04-20 (the plan says another 255 seats were to be allocated later by the NPCSC, which explains elected > quota). 'current_per_zh_wikipedia_2026' = secondary, zh.wikipedia list updated 2026-03-11 (sums to 2,848 vs 2,847 official in Aug 2026); use only as indicative. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan populations are end-2020 figures from their own authorities, quoted in census communiqué No. 2; Taiwan's figure is not a PRC census count.
